The weekend

It is Saturday morning. The kids are downstairs watching cartoons and the wife is still asleep, yet another stay at home dad job, let the wife sleep in on the weekends. Amanda has a basketball game this morning and Paige has ballet and gymnastics. Yet another busy morning. When I was a kid it seemed like Saturday morning there was nothing going on. Now the kids seem so busy.

Susan is heading out of town again tomorrow. That make me not only a stay at home dad, it also makes me a single parent, on Super Bowl Sunday. Not that I am a huge football fan, but I do like to watch the Super Bowl. Maybe the kids will want to watch, probably not though. That is why we have two televisions I guess.

Other Duties?

Being a stay at home dad isn't just about taking care of the kids and the house. It is also about taking care of you wife. Mine just got back from being out of town. She had to go to a town with no electricity to help out. She drove a Uhaul there filled with generators. She ended up having to sleep in the Uhaul in the parking lot bacause there was not where else. She got back last night, and is sick, sore and not doing great. I immediately knew what to do. Pull the kids off, get heating pads and put her to bed to rest. I think that stay at home dads have to remember that we need to take care of our spouses just as much if not more than the kids.

This kind of leads me to something else. I am not sure how many other stay at home dads have dealt with this, but I bet almost all of them. Jealousy from our wife. Jealousy that we are able to do something they would like to do, or at least have the opportunity to do. Not sure how to deal with that myself, anyone out there ever have this conversation with their wife?

Check out Rebel Dad's website

There is a great blog out there for SAHDs by Rebel Dad. If you haven't read it, you should really check it out.

I just finished a pretty good book, The Stay-at-Home Dad Handbook. Worth checking out if you get the chance.

Get back to school!

Kids are back at school. Neither one wanted to go for some reason. It was probably due to the two days of doing nothing that wasn't fun for them. Man I love snow days. I hope they have good memories of snow days like I have from my childhood. Sledding, snowball fights and hot chocolate. My new job as a stay at home dad mean I have to make memories for the kids that they will have for the rest of their lives. Hopefully good memories.

No wife tonight

My wife called and she is going to have to go out of town for a couple of days for a work emergency. No problem for a stay at home dad like me. Just means I will wear the kids out and they will want to go to bed early tonight.

Snow day part deux

Another day, another snow day. At least today there is actual snow on the ground and not just a prediction that there will be snow soon. Today will be a lot of sledding, snow ball throwing, and shoveling. Yep, I better shovel the driveway and the sidewalk at some point.

Boring snow day with no snow

Well not a great snow day. No snow. There is some sleet, but the kids don't really want to play in that. Mainly just a day of watching tv and playing. Too much Pokemon.

Start it up

I have been going to start this blog for a while now, and today is the day. I am finally starting to feel like a stay at home dad. It has been a while coming, but with the closing of my mortgage company I was working for, I am ready to embrace and jump right in.
It is a snow day tody so both of the kids will be home today. I have two, one that is 10 and is in the 4th grade and one that is 4 and in preK. I plan on using this blog to talk about my life as a stay at home dad. I hope someone out there will find what I say interesting and maybe leave me a comment or two. If you to are a stay at home dad to let me know.
